Local bus operator First Cymru picked up four awards at the CILT Wales National Transport Awards.
CILT (Chartered Institue of Logisitcs and Transport) is a professional body representing the transport and logistics industry, they presented the awards at a lunchtime ceremony in Cardiff on Friday (12 June)
First Cymru’s famous Cymru Clipper network won the Best Practice Award. The network was recognised for the way it has ‘revolutionised inter-urban travel across South Wales’.
First’s partnership working with Carmarthenshire County Council won the Partnership Award. This involved the development of services along a strategic bus corridor. The T1 Traws Cymru. First and the council won the award thanks to ‘the successful vital links the service provides’.
The highlight of afternoon was the Outstanding Contribution award. First’s Mark Jacobs won the award and Christian Horn won the runner up prize.
Mark is the staff operations manager at First Cymru’s depots in Bridgend and Maesteg. He won thanks to the way he has ‘transformed the way the depots communicate with their staff’ alongside the ‘contagious enthusiasm’ he brings to the business.
Christian, 34, Is the Customer & Staff Engagement Manager for First Cymru, he came joint runner up for being ‘one of the most tenacious, committed and enthusiastic junior managers within the bus industry’ he was also recognised as a ‘true unsung hero who is ready, at a moment's notice, to go the extra mile’.
Speaking about the result First Cymru’s Managing Director, Justin Davies, said: “We are so pleased to have won these awards. We have a great team of people working at First Cymru and they should all be very proud of what we have achieved.”
He continued: “These awards are not easy to win and they recognise the hard work and dedication that we have put in to making buses a better, easier choice for people in South Wales. We will continue to work hard to continue to improve bus services and to have just as much to be proud of this time next year.”
